The United States Secretary of Defense Mark Esper is currently visiting the Maghreb region. On Wednesday, the American official is expected to held talks with Tunisian President Kais Saied and his Defense Minister Ibrahim Bartagi, AFP reports.

On Thursday, October 1, Esper is expected to visit Algiers and meet President Abdelmajid Tebboune to discuss ways of «strengthening cooperation with Algeria on key regional issues», AFP wrote.

Esper's visit to Algeria comes just a week after that of Stephen Townsend, the Commander of the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM). In Algiers, Townsend and Presidet Tebboune discussed security cooperation between the two countries.

On Friday, October 2, the American Secretary of Defense will be visiting Morocco. He is expected to meet the Minister Delegate to the Head of Government, in charge of National Defense Administration, Abdellatif Loudiyi and the Inspector General of the Royal Armed Forces, Abdelfattah Louarak.
