Former Moroccan-Italian model Najat Karim died Sunday at the age of 35 after complications following a brain tumor. The model is best known for being a finalist for Miss World Italy 2009, representing the Lombardy region. Her husband Andrea Tironi announced her death on social media.
«She fought till the end, with all her might», he wrote on social media. According to Il Resto Del Carlino, he described her as a «unique, radiant, determined and intelligent woman», a «wonderful and gentle mother» to her son seven-year-old son Adam.
In the same statement, Najat’s husband thanked the inhabitants of Civitanova, who helped the mother during her battle with cancer. In May, the city’s businesses raised funds to cover her treatment.
Najat Karim's state of health had already required two surgeries and chemotherapy sessions. To cope with the medical expenses that her family could no longer fully cover, businessmen and restaurant owners in her city launched the fundraising campaign.
