In the 2025 Reporters Without Borders ranking, Morocco saw a slight improvement in the Press Freedom Index, moving from 129th to 120th place globally. Despite this progress, the media in Morocco continues to face significant challenges, particularly with the ongoing pressure on independent journalists and restrictions on freedom of expression, according to the report.
Morocco has been ranked 130th globally out of 165 countries in the Human Freedom Index 2024, and ninth in the North Africa and Middle East region.
In its Freedom on the Net report, Freedom House classified Morocco as a partially free country, scoring 54 out of 100 points, up from 51 the previous year. The report highlights ongoing violations of users' rights and content restrictions, reflecting a broader global decline in online freedom.
Morocco ranked 129th out of 180 countries in Reporters Without Borders' annual World Press Freedom Ranking 2024, up 15 places from last year's ranking.
