In his presentation of the regional government's Africa plan, he deliberately avoided addressing the Polisario or the Sahara issue. Amid internal tensions and diplomatic challenges, Clavijo is opting for a pragmatic approach.
As in 2006, the Canary Islands are once again facing mass arrivals of irregular migrants. Confronted with the scale of the issue, the archipelago's president changed his stance and praised Morocco’s cooperation, admitting that without the Kingdom, «the situation would be unmanageable».
