Morocco’s poultry sector is facing a severe crisis after farm-gate chicken prices fell well below production costs, threatening the livelihoods of thousands of breeders. Industry professionals attribute the situation to a widening imbalance between supply and demand, driven by overproduction and the lack of effective market regulation, and are calling for an investigation into the sector’s management.
In August, Morocco allowed, for the first time, US poultry imports into the country. On Thursday, the US Trade Representative announced that the Kingdom has lifted the ban on US beef products too.
After the U.S. Trade Representative’s Office announced that Morocco will start importing American poultry products, the US Poultry & Egg Council (USAPEEC) explained that the decision will also cover turkey.
