The man behind North Africa’s first Holocaust Memorial said that he had received a letter from the authorities, ordering him to leave the country and to put an end to his NGO’s activities. Speaking to Yabiladi, Oliver Bienkowski said that he is planning to bring the case to court, resisting his expulsion.
Muslim scholars and anti-normalization activists took to the internet to criticize the Muslim delegation that visited a Holocaust memorial in Poland and performed Muslim prayers alongside the descendants of Holocaust survivors.
In a video shared online and relayed by several newspapers, anti-normalization activists claimed that the Ait Faska Holocaust Memorial was not «entirely demolished» by the authorities. But to the man behind the project, the installations left in the property are just a replica of a movie’s imaginary monument.
After it was announced that Ait Faska, a small village near Marrakech, would be home to North Africa’s first Holocaust memorial, several anti-normalizers took to social media to denounce the project. Their angry comments carried on, even after the authorities demolished the memorial.
After Ait Faska’s Holocaust memorial was demolished, Monday, by the local authorities in Al Haouz, the Moroccan Association for Human Rights issued a communiqué, accusing the NGO behind the project of «exploiting locals’ poverty».
