Entitled «Art is not a crime», a communication campaign was launched by PixelHelper founder Oliver Bienkowski to denounce the demolition of his Holocaust memorial by the Ait Ourir authorities.

Oliver Bienkowski also addressed a letter to King Mohammed VI, sent to Yabiladi, in which the activist reports several «violations», such as the seizure of a mobile canteen in May 2018 by the authorities.

In his letter, the founder of PixelHelper denounces the destruction of the Holocaust memorial and other buildings that he deems «artistic», as part of his project located in the village of Ait Faska, near Ait Ourir.

In the same vein, he denounces the lack of responsiveness of local authorities at the time of his applications for building permits. «We have invested $ 100,000 in Morocco in one year (...) We also provided daily bread to the village», the letter says, denouncing also an «embargo on the project site after its demolition» and the «harassment of visitors and journalists».

«Although you have all the necessary documents to obtain an investment visa in Morocco, including a three-year lease with a purchase option, the police wants to squeeze us hard», he castigates, calling for repair and reconstruction of the «bread bakery».

As a result of the controversy, pro-Palestinian NGOs and the local chapter of the Moroccan Association of Human Rights (AMDH) had accused PixelHelper of normalization with Israel. They had also revealed that this project was going to be set up in another village, but because of the inhabitant’s refusal, the association would have had to change locations.

«Artists are not terrorists but that's how we are treated», Oliver Bienkowski claims, referring to alleged threats «from the moqadem in Ait Faska».
