Help: Names of Moroccan trees and bushes

Hello everybody!

My son is at school working on a "herbarium", in his case a collection of trees and bushes from Northern Europe (Norway) and North-Africa (Morocco).

I suppose many of you in the forum have had to do a project like this at school, where you press and dry leaves and flowers, which one has to classify in the scientific botanical system.

As we were in Morocco this spring, my son chose to collect twenty trees/bushes from Morocco and twenty from Norway. He thought it would be interesting to compare the kind of plants growing in North-Africa and Northern Europe and how they are used f.ex. medical use, crafts, furniture etc..

He would very much like to have the Moroccan names of the Moroccan plants in his project. So I hope that you can help him to get the Moroccan names.

Here are some of the plants with their scientific and their French, English and for some of the plants German names:

1. Phoenix dactylifera – Date palm – Palmier dattier - Dattelpalme

2. Cupressus sempervirens – Italian cypress - Cyprès d'Italie/Cyprès de Provence – Zypresse

3. Taxus baccata – Yew – If européen/If commun -

4. Anagyris foetida – Bean trefoil – Bois puant

5. Cedrus atlantica – Atlas cedar - Cèdre de l'Atlas

6. Viscum cruciatum – (Red-berried) misteltoe –

7. Retama monosperma – Bridal broom – Retama

8. Quercus ilex – Holm oak/Evergreen oak - Chêne vert/Yeuse – Steineiche

9. Rhododendron - Rhododendron – Rhododendron – Rhododendron

10. Olea europaea – Olive tree - Olivier - Olivenbaum

There might be different names in Tamazight and Darija or Standard Arabic.

My son would be very glad, if you could help him! smiling smiley

Ahlan Muslima and Wajdia!

Thank you for your answers!

The reason for my son's request is, that he wants to give copies of his project to our Moroccan friends.

So he hopes there will be someone in this forum, who knows the names of the other trees.

Best regards

Hi all experts on plants! smiling smiley

This evening is your last chance to give your contribution of Moroccan names to the list of trees and bushes above in the first posting.. winking smiley

My son has to finish his project tomorrow afternoon and now he has a table of the scientific plant names together with German, English, French and Norwegian names. But the column for the Moroccan names only has about four items...

Is there anyone to take the last chance option for Moroccan names?

Best regards
