Morocco's postal service
v

I cannot understand why it is not possible to send an ordinary letter to family or friends in Morocco without it going missing. This has happened to EVERY letter I send (from France) unless I send it 'recommande', which then usually arrives within a week. Trouble is, it's a very expensive way to send an ordinary letter!

Hello volvofan,
I have nothing good to say about Moroccan postal service, they lost my packages so many times, and you’re right, unless it’s insured or registered, the chances are it could be lost. Yes email is faster bla bla bla, but nothing ever will replace the feeling of opening a letter from loved ones. And so my friend, I’m afraid you’re going to have to swallow the cost of insured and registered mail if you want it to arrive to destination.
Last night while watching a movie with my wife, actually it’s a good movie to watch, it’s called (Since Otar Left) and when one of the characters was sending a letter and then receiving one later, my wife turned to me and said: remember not long ago when people sent letters!!? It made me thing of yet another good thing in our lives on the verge of disappearing.

Very true. Yet we sent 12 postcards from Morocco to the UK and every one arrived safely within 10 days! Anyway - if everyone stops sending letters, then what will philatelists do??? The hobby will fizzle out completely! LoL. Joking apart, it is a real shame that the postal service has become so bad. I remember not that long ago when it was really quite good - it just seems to have gone downhill. I must admit the Internet has made me very lazy about writing letters but I force myself.

tryed two colis postal arrived after 2 months ! by airmail

went to ask usps (usa postal service) they said the packages take 2 to 3 days to arrive to morocco

simple computation : they stayed 1month 27 days somewhere on the barid-almaghrib vaults !

But at least they arrived! That's all you can hope for. My letters NEVER arrive - unless I register them - 6.30 euros for a simple letter. I think they get stolen and opened in the hope that there is money in them - that's why they never arrive at their destination. I'm sorry to say this but that's what I believe.

For long time MRE have discovered a way to send money to their families in morocco without paying fees for it. It was just another of Moroccan ingenuity, hahaha,
Just put your 100 or 50 Euros or dollars inside a folding post card and you can skip paying westernunion fees, the only thing they forget, however, is that employees a post office in morocco were discovering the gold mine that was flying into their hands every day. It was a play where both sides in my view are guilty. You look for free or cheap way to send your mail, well, there will be consequences, as for the post office workers who steal/open the mail in hope of finding money, they loose their trust and integrity and the poorly way they’re paid in morocco can only aggravate the situation.
I was ones one of the MRE who enjoyed that “FREE” service, I have to admit, but it became obvious to me that one can not expect ethical behavior from post office workers when one is involved in wrong doing on the other side.
The victims, however, are the millions of honest people like volvofan who send they’re normal mail only to find out that it never made it to destination.
salaam,

Hi almotonabi

that this not unplea the guilty and dishonest post office workers

sending money free is a choice and can be only beneficial for the country since they get hard currency

hahahaha

myself dont understant what I wrote, may be was under influence of mango tongue sticking out smiley

no I just wanted to highlight that it is a federal crime to open a letter unless for the public good safety.

if people want to send their money that way (which involves risk since parcel post is not insured) they are free to do so and this do not allow postal office employees to rob 'em

shame on them !

Oh man! That mango juice and what it can do!!!lol
Totally agree that it’s a crime to open someone else’s mail, but we know that when you hire people to do a job where integrity and trust are keys, and you pay them so bad, you are in for a surprise, just like if you ask badly paid police officers to run your town, they do turn in many instances into criminals themselves. I don’t defend the acts of the employees who open mail entrusted in their hands, but I say that there are two sides here. It’s wrong and criminal to open mail, it is wrong to hire unqualified people to do the job, and it’s wrong to expect all people paid almost nothing to remain trustworthy if they can’t pay rent or send a child to a doctor. Please know that I’m not defending these acts, I was a victim of them, too. But I hold Barid Al Maghrib just as responsible for not hiring people qualified and for not taking care of them and providing supervision.

thats an interesting point, you just raised !

in morocco since everybody is underpaid because of the large social imbalances ( 5% of the moroccan productivity is goin to 95% and vice versa)

then we ve got a big problem

no security (police underpaid)
no confidence ( administrative clercks underpaid)
no trustworthiness

...

...

the whole country is goin bad !

better start by changing ourselves, better be patriotic (to an extend bcs some highly assigned ppl dont really deserve our sacrifice)

but there is always "but" somebody got to take action
