Policemen in Tangier on Wednesday night foiled, in coordination with their counterparts at the Tangier Med port, an international drug trafficking operation aboard an international freight truck and seized 11.44 tons of cannabis resin.

This joint security operation was carried out in coordination with elements of the customs services at the Tangier Med port, National Police (DGSN) said in a statement, adding that the banned substance was concealed in a shipment of agricultural goods intended for export aboard a Morocco-registered truck heading for a Spanish port.

The truck's driver, a 33-year-old Moroccan man, was arrested, the source said, noting that investigations are underway to arrest all the people involved in these criminal acts.

The suspect was placed on custody pending the end of the investigations conducted under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor's office.

This operation is part of the joint efforts of Moroccan security services to fight against cross-border crimes and in particular international drug trafficking.
