A first group of French tourists arrived Saturday at the Marrakech-Menara international airport, as part of the Kingdom's efforts to gradually relaunch tourism after long months marked by the closure of domestic borders due to the health crisis triggered by the coronavirus pandemic.

The arrival of this group of 160 French tourists aboard a Royal Air Maroc (RAM) plane is very symbolic and will serve as a ray of hope for all the professionals in the sector, at a time when the relevant authorities are endeavouring to promote this most popular destination across the world.

Speaking to reporters on this occasion, Director General of the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT), Adel El fakir, stressed that «it was important for us, ONMT, but also the supervisory ministry, Royal Air Maroc, the National Airports Office as well as tourism professionals to be here to welcome these tourists and show the world that Morocco is mobilized to welcome its guests and deploy all the necessary measures, to safeguard their health and ensure that their stay takes place in the best conditions».

All tourism operators are now mobilized to ensure a gradual and lasting revival of the tourism sector, he added.

«Morocco has made all arrangements to once again welcome its visitors and guests in optimal health conditions», he pointed out.

These first arrivals take place when several prestigious hotels in Marrakech and other cities of the Kingdom are reopening their doors and several foreign airlines have announced the forthcoming resumption of their flights to the Kingdom.
