Three Moroccan literary works win Katara Prize for novel

The cultural village of the +Katara+ Foundation unveiled, on Tuesday in Doha, the names of the wining literary works in the 6th edition of the +Katara+ prize for the novel.

The list of prize-winners includes three Moroccan literary works. The novelist Said Al Alam was awarded the prize, in the category of unpublished novel, for his novel The Virgin of Granada: Love between Two Cities (Adraa Gharnata: Hob bayna madinatayne), and the critics Abdelmalek Chahboune and Mustapha AL Nahal also won, in the studies and reviews category, for their works devoted respectively to migration and the reflection of reality in novels through narration.

The announcement of the winners of this edition was made during a virtual ceremony, organized under the aegis of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO).

On this occasion, the Moroccan novelist Said Al Alam expressed, in statements to the press, his joy for this prize, noting that this literary recognition will allow him to further strengthen his presence in the world of books.

For his part, the Moroccan critic Mustapha Al Nahal said he was happy to receive this prize, noting that the Katara award is now among the most important literary awards in the Arab world.

The literary critic Abdelmalek Chahboune expressed his thanks to the members of the jury for their choice.

Some 2,220 literary works were vying in the different categories of the Katara Prize 2020.
