Policemen from the provincial security district in Mehdia (Kénitra) foiled, early Friday, an irregular migration operation and arrested 26 would-be immigrants, including five women, one of whom was pregnant.

Candidates for irregular migration were arrested as they were preparing to organize an irregular migration operation by sea at the coast of the city of Mehdia, said a press release from the national police (DGSN), adding that the search operation led to the seizure of two boats and two sea engines, as well as several batteries, a GPS and five jerry cans filled with 200 liters of fuel.

The people arrested were subjected to the investigation procedures conducted under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor's office to determine the circumstances of this case, while investigations are under way with a view to arresting the organizers involved in this criminal network, according to the same source.

This security operation is part of the continuous efforts by the DGSN services in the fight against irregular migration and human trafficking, the press release concluded.
