The Spanish Civil Guard announced on Friday the arrest in Altea (Alicante) of a Moroccan national for his alleged terrorist activities as a recruiter on behalf of terrorist organization IS.

The suspect, aged 50 and in an illegal situation in Spain, is a militant by vocation of the terrorist organization IS, said the Civil Guard in a press release, noting that the individual spent a large part of his time to research, edit, comment on and disseminate propaganda material of the terrorist organization.

To carry out his activities, he adopted rigorous security measures so as not to be spotted by the security forces, by identifying possible people targeted on social networks before redirecting them to private messaging applications in order to deepen the process of radicalization and provide them with digital content from the aforementioned terrorist organization, explained the same source.

This operation, which helped detect the activities of this individual on the Internet to recruit young people and radicalize them, was carried out with Europol, added the same source.
