Police in Arrecife, a port city on the east coast of Lanzarote, one of Spain’s Canary Islands, have arrested five people for having kidnapped a Moroccan fisherman and used his boat to reach the Canary Islands.

«Those arrested deceived the victim by claiming that they wanted to fish before tying him up and taking control of his boat. During the trip, they threatened to accuse him of being a smuggler who would have charged them a sum of 1,000 euros each», local online newspaper Canarias7 wrote.

The man is a fisherman from Tan Tan, who sought the help of new people to help him fishing. Three people responded and once sailing, they claimed that the boat was leaking.

While he was checking the boat, two men hit him on the head, tied him up and carried two more people before heading to the Canary Islands.
