Legatum Institute : Morocco does better than Tunisia and Algeria in the prosperity index

Morocco was ranked 96th in the 2020 edition of the Legatum Institute’s Prosperity Index, doing better than the previous year. Released this month, the report, which assesses levels of prosperity in 167 countries, ranked Morocco 100th, 95th and 94th in 2019, 2018 and 2017, respectively.

The index indicates that «Morocco performs most strongly in Market Access & Infrastructure and Enterprise Conditions but is weakest in Social Capital». «The biggest improvement compared to a decade ago came in Enterprise Conditions», the report said.

Morocco is ranked 58th market access and infrastructure, 61st for enterprise conditions, 65th for investment environment, 68th for safety and security, and 91st for governance.

However, Morocco ranks 103rd for Health, 113th for Education, 119th for personal freedom, 126th for natural environment and 164th for social capital.

Regionally, Morocco ranks 9th in the Arab world, behind the United Arab Emirates (42nd), Qatar (45th), Bahrain (56th), Kuwait (58th), Oman (66th), Saudi Arabia (71st) and Jordan (86th).

In North Africa, Morocco ranks first, ahead of Tunisia (99th), Algeria (108th), Libya (149th) and Mauritania (154th).

Denmark leads the ranking, followed by Norway, Switzerland, Sweden and Finland. On the other hand, Somalia, Chad, Yemen, the Central African Republic and South Sudan come last.
