The President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, said on Wednesday that it is «urgent» to proceed with the transfer of migrants to other Spanish autonomous communities.
During a press conference held in the Parliament of the Canary Islands, the official said that it is «impossible» for the archipelago to absorb the flow of arrivals, with more than 2,300 migrants in total.
According to Europa Press, Ángel Víctor Torres said the Canary Islands are going through «a very difficult time». He offered to accompany the Spanish Interior Minister Fernando Grande Marlaska on his visit to Morocco this Friday.
«I expect clear conclusions from this visit. I asked to go to Morocco. I think it is important that the president of the Canary Islands also exposes the reality», he insisted.
He felt that the responses to migration must «multiply» because there are «more migrants every day».
«We cannot do it alone, it is impossible», he insisted, recalling that the autonomous community houses more than 2,000 unaccompanied minors.
