Elements of the regional service of the judicial police of Errachidia arrested, Tuesday, on the basis of precise information by the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance, an individual with a criminal record for his alleged links to an international drug trafficking criminal network.
The suspect, 31, was arrested in the city of Rissani, while the technical investigations and inquiries carried out in this case made it possible to track the route of a drug shipment, in coordination with the military authorities in charge of border surveillance in the area of Zguilma, near Zagora, and seize it, said a statement by National Police (DGSN).
The drug cargo, consisting of 41 bundles of cannabis resin weighing 1 tonne and 25 kilograms, was transported by ten camels that were seized as well, the same source added.
The suspect was placed in police custody for the investigation conducted under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor's office in order to determine the possible ramifications of this criminal activity and all the charges against the individual arrested.
This operation is part of the intense efforts carried out by security services to combat international trafficking of drugs and psychotropic substances, the statement concluded.
