The high-speed rail (HSR) to link Kenitra to Marrakech will require a budget of 40 billion MAD, said Tuesday in Rabat, Minister of Equipment, Transport, Logistics and Water, Abdelkader Amara.

In response to an oral question at the House of Representatives relating to rail lines in the southern provinces, the Minister noted that the Marrakech-Agadir HSR project will cost 50 billion MAD, as part of the railway program by 2040.

Thus, the total budgetary envelope will reach nearly 100 billion MAD, underlined the government official, highlighting the state of progress of the detailed technical studies, in particular with regard to the second Marrakech-Agadir line.

In addition, in response to another oral question on the review of the management of transport approvals, the Minister noted that some 3,831 mixed transport licenses have been allocated, of which only 29% are in use.

The Béni Mellal-Khénifra region is ranked first in terms of the number of approvals granted (565 licenses, 15% of which are used), followed by the Drâa-Tafilalet region, then Marrakech-Safi.
