Moroccan historian Maati Monjib remanded in custody for alleged involvement in money laundering

Maati Monjib was remanded in custody to continue the investigation into his alleged involvement in acts that may constitute elements of the crime of money laundering, said the public prosecutor at the Rabat first instance court.

Following the press release issued on 07/10/2020 regarding the investigation into the charges brought against Maati Monjib and members of his family, the public prosecutor at the Rabat first instance court announced that the suspect was brought before the public prosecutor's office on December 29, 2020 after completion of the preliminary investigation procedures.

In a press release, the public prosecutor said that Monjib was brought before the examining judge at the same court which decided, after the preliminary questioning, to take him into custody to continue the investigation into his alleged involvement in acts which may constitute elements of the crime of money laundering.

The examining judge also ordered that one of Monjib's relatives be brought before the court, the press release concluded.
