The Polisario leadership is planning to lock down the Tindouf camps. «Access to the camps will no longer be authorized starting from tomorrow. The measure was decided during a meeting of the Front’s General Secretariat on January 11», Messoud Ramdane, president of the Sahrawi Association for the Defense of Human Rights, told Yabiladi on Tuesday.

«The decision is motivated by the state of general alert that has been in force since November 13, 2020, in the wake of the Royal Armed Forces military intervention in Guerguerate. This closure will help support the propaganda campaign on the ‘war’ that the Polisario declared on Morocco».

Furthermore, this closure is seen as a restriction on the free movement of the population of the Tindouf camps. Senior Polisario officials have been touring the camps this week to «explain to Sahrawis the decisions taken» by the general secretariat, SPS reported.

This is not the first time that such a lockdown is imposed on the camps. In 2019, when Algeria was witnessing Hirak protests, the army imposed a lockdown on the camps, allowing movement only through permits.
