On Monday, March 1, the spokesperson for the United Nationals Secretary-General addressed the situation in Guerguerate once again during the daily press briefing.
«The United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) continues to receive unconfirmed reports of sporadic firing across the berm. The Mission continues to monitor the situation throughout the Territory, including in Guerguerate, to the extent possible given its capabilities. We continue to urge the parties to exercise restraint».
On February 26, the spokesperson said the United Nations «have not received any information that the situation in Guerguerat has changed in any way».
These UN clarifications come at a time when the Polisario has not stopped publishing press releases for almost four months on «bombing» positions held by the Moroccan army. The most recent statement of this kind was published on Sunday February 28 by the Polisario «Ministry of Defense».
