Police on Sunday seized, on the basis of precise information provided by the services of the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), nearly two tons of cannabis resin and arrested a man over alleged links to a drug trafficking network.
The suspect was arrested in the city of Laayoune, National Police (DGSN) said in a statement, adding that investigations have located the drug shipment which was hidden in a desert area, about 10 km from the city of Smara.
Search operations carried out by policemen led to the discovery of nearly two tons of the banned substance hidden under the sand, DGSN pointed out, adding that a vehicle which could be used for drug trafficking has also been seized.
The suspect was placed on custody, while investigations are underway under the supervision of the competent prosecutor's office to determine the ramifications of this network and arrest all the people involved in these criminal acts.
