The Reina Sofía National Museum in Madrid is presenting for the first time an exhibition of contemporary Moroccan art entitled Moroccan Trilogy 1950-2020, from March 31 to September 27, 2021.

More than 200 works by contemporary artists from the last seven decades make up the timeline of the exhibition, which aims to allow the Spanish public to better understand the liveliness and inventiveness of the Moroccan art scene, a press release by the National Museum Foundation (FNM) said on Monday.

This exhibition is organized as part of the cultural cooperation program between Morocco and Spain in the field of museums, by the FNM, the Spanish Ministry of Culture and Sports and the Reina Sofia National Museum, said the same source, adding that the curatorial choice was exclusively made by the director of the art museum, Manuel Borja Villel, who chose Abdellah Karroum as co-curator.

Several cultural events will be organized in Morocco and Spain as part of the memorandum of understanding signed on February 13, 2019 before the two Sovereigns, King Mohammed VI and King Felipe VI, between the National Museum Foundation (FNM) and the Spanish Ministry of Culture and Sports, on cultural and museum cooperation, the source noted.

This agreement, which is the affirmation of a common and fraternal history, will contribute to strengthening the historical friendship between the two peoples, it said.
