Al Hoceima : A young man arrested for breaking the fast in public

Police in Al Hoceima arrested, Thursday, a young man for breaking the fast in public. Local media sources reported that the man in question was arrested at the Rmod Beach, while breaking his fast and smoking.

The man was arrested and taken into police custody while awaiting trial before the king's prosecutor.

Article 222 of the Moroccan Penal Code criminalizes breaking the fast in public during the month of Ramadan. «Whoever, notoriously known as a Muslim, ostensibly breaks the fast in a public place during Ramadan, without a reason admitted by this religion, is punished with imprisonment from one to six months and a fine of 12 to 120 dirhams», read the article.
