An association in Ceuta has asked King Mohammed VI to ease the border closure measure. To back its request, the NGO «Residents of Ceuta» argued that the opening of the border would facilitate «transit and strengthen ties during this month of Ramadan», El Faro de Ceuta reported.

The association calls for a limited opening governed by preventive health measures, stressing that such decision will have «emotional and economic benefits throughout the territory».

The association stressed that this opening will help «maintain human and family ties» and «generate wealth and progress for all».

This initiative is, in fact, not the first of its kind. The «Muslim Community of Melilla», a religious association based in the city, asked in July for a direct intervention of the sovereign for the reopening of the land borders with Morocco.
