Judicial police in the city of Nador foiled, on Thursday, in close coordination with the services of the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), an attempt of irregular immigration and arrested an individual for alleged links with a criminal network active in the organization of irregular immigration and human trafficking.
The suspect was arrested at the Tamsamane area, some 80 km from the city of Al Hoceima, in the act of preparing an irregular migration operation by sea, the national police (DGSN) said in a statement, adding that the suspect was in the company of eight would-be immigrants.
Searches resulted in the seizure of three cars, 20 cell phones, marine navigation equipment including 17 life jackets, two compasses, air pumps, 8 jerrycans containing 200 liters of fuel, and sums of money suspected to be originated from this criminal activity.
Suspects were placed in custody to complete the investigation conducted under the supervision of the competent prosecutor to clarify this case, the same source concluded.
