The Laayoune judicial police foiled, Monday, an attempt of international drug trafficking and seized a ton and 264 kilograms of chira.

The national police (DGSN) said Tuesday in a statement that security operations, conducted on the basis of accurate information provided by the services of the Directorate General of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), have led to the arrest of two individuals, aged 26 and 30 years, one of whom is a repeat offender, for alleged links with a criminal network active in international drug trafficking.

Searches conducted in the town of Boucraa made it possible to find two packages of chira with a total weight of 62 kg, before investigations resulted in the seizure of two cars and 39 additional packages of the same drug, buried near the town of Gueltat Zemmour, about 200 kilometers east of Laayoune, said the statement.

The two suspects were taken into custody as part of the investigation conducted under the supervision of the competent prosecutor's office, in order to determine the various ramifications of this criminal activity and question all those involved in these criminal acts.
