Morocco hands to Malian President historical manuscripts of scholar Ahmed Baba of Timbuktu

Following instructions of King Mohammed VI, the Moroccan ambassador in Bamako, Hassan Naciri handed, on Monday, to the Malian Head of State, Bah N'Daw, copies of the manuscripts of the Malian scholar Ahmed Baba of Timbuktu.

During an audience granted to the Moroccan diplomat, Naciri officially handed over to Bah N'Daw, President of the transition, Head of State of Mali, copies of the manuscripts of the Malian scholar Ahmed Baba of Timbuktu (1556-1627), said a statement by the embassy.

Recorded on two CDs and several microfilms, the documents in question come from several specialized structures of the Kingdom, said the same source.

The handing over of these copies, of inestimable historical value, takes place on the occasion of Africa Day, celebrated on 25 May, and also within the framework of the theme chosen by the African Union for the year 2021: Art, culture and heritage, a lever to build the Africa we want, which emphasizes in particular the role of culture and African heritage in the reconstruction of an identity and an economy specific to Africa.

There is no doubt that these documents will contribute to the growth and development of the Center that bears the name of the illustrious and historic figure in the city of Timbuktu, the statement noted.

The Malian president, who thanked the King, said he was very honored by this unforgettable royal gesture which recalls, he stressed, the centuries-old ties and common values linking the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Mali.
