The number of infection cases with the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) recorded a decrease of 29.8% during the fortnight from May 10 to 23, the Ministry of Health said in its bi-monthly report on the epidemiological situation in Morocco, made public Tuesday.

Active cases have also experienced a decline of 31% to 2,595 cases, against 3,878 during the period between April 26 and May 9, added the report, presented by the head of the division of communicable diseases in the Directorate of Epidemiology and Disease Control at the Ministry of Health, Abdelkrim Meziane Bellefquih.

Decreases were also recorded in several other indicators, including deaths (-7.7%), critical or severe cases (-16%, 187 vs. 218) and patients under intubation (-50%).

On the other hand, the rate of positivity has increased slightly over the past two weeks, from 2.5% to 3.13%, a situation that can be explained by the significant rise in this rate in the Casablanca-Settat region (8.2%), while it has dropped significantly in the Fez-Meknes region (0.2%).

All these indicators confirm the improvement of the epidemiological situation in the Kingdom, which bodes well for the continuation of the national immunization campaign, at a sustained and uninterrupted pace, said the official, specifying that this is the sixth week in a row that contaminations remain on a downward trend.

In addition, he said that at the end of the 17th week of this campaign, which began on January 28, the number of people who received the first dose of anti-Covid vaccines amounted to 7,832,620 and that of fully vaccinated people (1st and 2nd doses) reached 4,875,332.

Bellefquih noted the continued delivery of anti-Covid vaccines during the past fortnight, saying that these supplies allow the authorities to gradually expand the age groups that can benefit from it.

In order to preserve the significant achievements made in terms of the national immunization campaign and in view of the improvement of the epidemiological situation in the Kingdom, the Ministry of Health urges citizens to continue to respect the precautionary and preventive measures, in order to stem the spread of the virus.
