After the reaction of its representation in Algiers, the general secretariat of the Polisario took over to officially denounce the countries joining the initiative launched by King Mohammed VI, to enable access to the Atlantic ocean for Sahel States.

The separatist movement accuses them of «having sold themselves to Morocco», stressing that «Rabat’s policy always consists in buying people and selling illusions to escape its isolation». The Polisario considers, in a press release, that «the last meeting» in Marrakech would have been doomed «to failure», stressing that it occurs «in contradiction with geographical and historical logic and reflects the failure of the expansion project and the imposition of a fait accompli» in the region.

On Monday, a senior official from the Polisario representation in Algiers called the Marrakech meeting «a maneuver which aims to overshadow the successes of the Algerian approach in the Sahel». He added that «the Atlantic is a region at war which can only be exploited after the independence of Western Sahara».

Mali, Niger, Chad and Burkina Faso took part in the meeting in Marrakech on December 23. On the other hand, Mauritania did not attend. Mali recognizes the self-proclaimed «SADR», while Niger supports the political process led by the UN. As for Chad and Burkina Faso, they recognize Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara.
