Moroccan authorities foiled, on Friday, at the El Guergarat border post south of Dakhla, an attempt to smuggle 569 kg of chira, hidden onboard an international goods truck registered in Morocco.
During search operations, narcotics-trained sniffer dogs detected 569 kg of chira, hidden and packaged in pallets of food products, a security source said.
The driver, a 53-year-old Moroccan national, was arrested and is currently under investigation carried out by the competent public prosecutor's office, to determine the ramifications of these criminal acts regionally and internationally, the same source added.
This operation is part of the intense efforts deployed by the various security services at the El Guergarat border post to fight international trafficking of drugs and psychotropic substances as well as transnational crimes.
