Morocco police foil attempt to smuggle over 362 kg of cocaine in El Guergarat

A joint security operation involving national police and customs at the El Guergarat border post, south of the town of Dakhla, helped, on Monday, to foil an attempt to smuggle a large international shipment of hard drugs, and led to the seizure of 362 kg and 950 grams of cocaine destined for Morocco from abroad.

Control and careful search operations led to the discovery of this cargo of hard drugs in the form of 16 bales carefully concealed in the cabin and body of an international goods transport truck registered in Morocco, immediately after arriving at the El Guergarat border post from a sub-Saharan African country, said a statement by the national police (DGSN), reporting the arrest of the truck driver and his assistant.

The suspects, two Moroccan citizens aged 40 and 41, were subjected to a judicial investigation conducted under the supervision of the competent Public Prosecutor's Office, with a view to determining the local and international ramifications of this criminal activity and the arrest of all those involved, added the same source.

This security operation is part of the DGSN's intensive efforts to combat international drug trafficking, particularly the illicit trade in hard drugs and psychotropic substances from outside Morocco.
