After a stop-over in Dakhla, drivers participating to the Africa Eco Race 15th edition crossed the El Guerguerate yesterday to continue their rally through Mauritania. Despite the Polisario’s protest, the passage went smoothly without signaling any incident.

Indeed, well before arriving in Western Sahara, the separatist movement tried to disrupt the progress of the sporting competition. This is evidenced by the high number of human losses recorded in the ranks of these armed militias since December 30, 2023.

«A provisional report shows that at least 20 Polisario members were killed in the recent days by Moroccan drones, including a senior military commander, while they were preparing actions against the positions of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR)», a well-informed source told Yabiladi.

Indeed, drones aborted several Polisario operations in the localities of M’Hiriz and Mijek, located near the borders with Mauritania.

For the record, the Polisario has sent threats to the organizers of the Africa Eco Race. «The entire territory of the Sahrawi Republic, including its spaces, land, sea and air, is an open war zone», warned the Front in a press release published on November 30. It held them «responsible for the consequences which could result from their entry and crossing of the Sahrawi national territory».
