Drivers participating to the 12th edition of the Africa Eco Race were able, Monday, to cross Guerguerat safely, organizers told Yabiladi. The crossing comes after the Polisario threatened to block the Guerguerat stage of the annual race.
In a new letter to the UN Secretary-General, the Polisario Front is denouncing the Africa Eco Race Sahara crossing. The 12th edition of the annual rally raid to include a Guerguerate crossing stage.
Drivers participating to the Africa Eco Race have safely made it to Mauritania, through the Guerguerate border crossing. According to the race’s organizers, a Mauritania stage was cancelled due to weather-related issues.
While the Africa Eco Race participants are heading to Guerguerate, the Polisario is hosting a military drill in Amhereez. The Front, once again, denied alleged incursions in Guerguerate.
After reports suggested that the Polisario is planning to block the 11th edition of the Africa Eco Race, expected to stop by Gueguerat, a source from the Tindouf camps denied the information.
Unlike last year when the Polisario deployed its armed troops to stop the 10th edition of the Africa Eco Race, the sports event started on Sunday all while keeping its route’s Saharan stages. The Front did not react to the Race whose participants will have to cross El Guerguerate on January the 17th before entering Mauritania.
