The World Health Organization's (WHO) Executive Board selected Morocco to lead its newly established Commission on Social Connection, announced on Friday in Geneva.

This recognition reflects the Kingdom's extensive efforts under King Mohammed VI to strengthen social welfare, notably through universal social protection and healthcare coverage.

Health Minister Khaled Ait Taleb will chair the commission, highlighting Morocco's commitment to social justice through its comprehensive social protection system. This system prioritizes human dignity and fosters intergenerational solidarity by strengthening family ties, the bedrock of social cohesion.

The appointment occurred during the 154th Executive Board session in Switzerland, alongside a joint declaration emphasizing the critical role of social connections in public health and announcing the commission's launch.

Morocco, the United States, and Japan, co-sponsors of the commission, stressed the importance of social ties for individual and community well-being. They envision the commission raising awareness, accelerating solutions, and supporting low-income countries and vulnerable populations.

This prestigious leadership role allows Morocco to elevate social connections as a global health priority, share effective interventions, and explore how these connections enhance community well-being, social development, and innovation.
