Morocco Royal Navy rescues 56 migrants off Lagouira

On Monday, a Royal Navy unit conducting a maritime patrol southwest of Lagouira (37 km) assisted a boat in distress due to bad weather conditions. The vessel was carrying 56 irregular migrants from sub-Saharan Africa.

According to a statement from the General Command of the Royal Armed Forces, all migrants, including a woman and a minor, were rescued and taken aboard the Navy vessel. It was further stated that they departed on Thursday, February 22nd, with the intention of reaching the Canary Islands.

The rescued individuals received first aid before being transferred to Dakhla port and handed over to the Royal Gendarmerie for routine administrative procedures.
