Moroccan surfer Ramzi Boukhiam clinched the silver medal at the ISA World Surfing Games held from February 23 to March 3 in Puerto Rico, marking the country's first ever medal in the competition.

He was narrowly defeated by Brazilian Gabriel Medina, who took home the gold, while Frenchman Kauli Vaast secured the bronze. Boukhiam also secured his ticket to the Paris-2024 Olympic Games during the competition, his second consecutive qualification for the Olympics after Tokyo 2020.

The 30-year-old surfer recently made his return to the world surfing scene to compete in the World Surf League Championship Tour 2024 (WCT 2024), which brings together the world's professional surfing elite.

Boukhiam qualified at the end of the 2022 Challenger Series (CS) season, but an injury at the start of 2023 prevented him from participating in the Championship Tour (CT).
