US President Joe Biden received Youssef Amrani at the White House on Thursday, where he presented his credentials as Morocco’s ambassador to the United States. At the end of this audience, the diplomat expressed his commitment to working in accordance with the royal guidelines and deepening the historic and strategic alliance between the two countries.
Youssef Amrani was appointed to this position by King Mohammed VI. Before that, he held the position of mission manager in the royal cabinet since October 2013, before being appointed in June 2019 by the sovereign as ambassador to South Africa, the Republic of Botswana, the Republic of Malawi, and Eswatini. He also held the position of Secretary-General of the Union for the Mediterranean (UPM) in 2011 before being appointed Minister Delegate for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation in January 2012.
Amrani had held other diplomatic posts, including Consul General of Morocco in Barcelona, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and Belize in 2001, and ambassador to Chile in November 1999. In 1996, he was also an ambassador to Colombia, Ecuador, and Panama.
