Moroccan Ambassador to Washington Youssef Amrani was received by Kristalina Georgieva, Director General of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), on Wednesday for a working meeting. The meeting focused on prospects for cooperation between Morocco and the IMF in preparation for the upcoming World Bank and IMF Spring Meetings scheduled for April 17-19 in Washington, D.C.
During the discussions, Georgieva commended Morocco for its successful hosting of the 2023 Annual Meetings of the World Bank and IMF in Marrakesh last October. She also praised the Kingdom's significant economic progress.
Georgieva specifically noted Morocco's success as a model for flexibility and management in the post-pandemic phase, crediting the effectiveness of targeted government measures.
Ambassador Amrani emphasized the long-standing and fruitful cooperation between Morocco and the IMF, demonstrated through technical assistance programs and recent financing mechanisms like the flexible credit line and the resilience and sustainability facilities.
He further elaborated on the key directions of Moroccan government policies aimed at strengthening macroeconomic balances and implementing development strategies across various sectors. Additionally, he reiterated the importance of reforming Bretton Woods institutions to ensure stronger representation for Africa, address emerging socio-economic challenges, and promote a more inclusive multilateralism.
This meeting served not only to track the main achievements of the Marrakesh meetings but also reflected the mutual desire to strengthen the partnership between Morocco and the IMF in promoting sustainable and comprehensive economic growth within the Kingdom.
