Moroccan radio station Hit Radio broke its silence after callers to the Momo Ramadan Show, which aired on March 21st, fabricated a fake robbery to boost the station's ratings.
«We would like to strongly deny any involvement of the station in committing these acts, which do not reflect our values. Hit Radio and its staff are committed to strict ethical and professional principles», the station said in a statement sent Thursday to Yabladi.
«Hit Radio and its staff are not involved at all in this case and deny any connection to the people behind these alleged acts», the statement further emphasizes. «They are fully prepared to cooperate with the competent authorities to clarify the matter and uncover the truth».
Hit Radio expressed its unwavering respect for the security and justice forces and its gratitude for the work they do in the service of citizens to maintain security and public safety.
«In the face of unfounded accusations, we reserve our right to take legal action against those who seek to tarnish our reputation through false allegations», the statement concluded.
On Tuesday, the prosecutor at the Casablanca Court of First Instance decided to prosecute radio host Mohamed Bousfiha, known as «Momo», on a bail of 100,000 dirhams. The charges include «participating in insulting and broadcasting data that he knows does not exist».
The public prosecution also decided to prosecute two other people on charges of fabricating a fictitious crime and insulting an organized body. These individuals were referred to Ain Sebaa local prison.
