Strong wind gusts, heatwave expected in Morocco from Monday to Friday

Strong wind gusts (70-90 km/h) are expected in several Moroccan provinces from Monday to Tuesday, according to an announcement made on Sunday by the Directorate General of Meteorology (DGM).

The phenomenon will primarily affect the southern provinces of Assa-Zag, Sidi Ifni, Tan-tan, Guelmim, and Es-Semara. These regions can expect strong winds from 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM on Monday, as indicated by the DGM's orange alert bulletin.

The wind gusts will then spread to the central provinces of Chichaoua, Essaouira, Figuig, and Errachidia, starting at 2:00 PM on Monday and lasting until 6:00 PM on Tuesday.

An upcoming heatwave is also anticipated, with temperatures reaching 35°C to 39°C in the southern provinces of Taroudant, Guelmim, Assa-Zag, Es-Semara, and Tata, starting Tuesday and continuing through Friday.

Even hotter temperatures are expected in the south-western provinces of Inezgane-Ait Melloul, Agadir-Ida-Ou-Tanane, Chtouka-Ait Baha, Sidi Ifni, Tan-Tan, Laayoune, Tarfaya, Boujdour, Aousserd, and Oued Ed-Dahab. These regions can expect scorching heat between 36°C and 40°C from Wednesday to Friday.

A moderate heatwave is forecast for the central provinces of Fquih Ben Salah, Azilal, Beni Mellal, Sidi Bennour, Settat, Al Haouz, Chichaoua, El Kelaa des Sraghna, Essaouira, Marrakech, Rehamna, Safi, and Youssoufia, with temperatures ranging from 34°C to 38°C during the same period.
