Switzerland supports a «just, lasting and mutually acceptable» solution to the Sahara issue, President of the Swiss National Council Eric Nussbaumer said during his visit to Rabat on Tuesday.

«Switzerland supports the efforts of the United Nations and the work of the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for the Sahara, Staffan de Mistura, to reach a just, lasting and mutually acceptable solution, in line with international law and relevant Security Council resolutions», Nussbaumer told media following his talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita.

Switzerland reaffirms the importance of Morocco's serious and credible efforts to reach a political solution based on consensus, he said, referring in this regard to the autonomy initiative presented to the UN Secretary-General in 2007.

Nussbaumer added that his country also encourages all parties to continue their commitment in a spirit of compromise.
