For the first time, Morocco’s National Tourism Office (ONMT) is taking part in the ITB China 2024 trade show in Shanghai, from May 27 to 29, with a delegation of Moroccan operators.

Under the theme «Thrive in Transformation, Reach New Heights. Together» this leading trade show in the tourism, travel and hospitality industry brought together over 800 exhibitors from over 80 different countries, according to a press release.

During the event, ONMT renewed partnerships with key players such as CTrip, and established new links with major Tour-Operators from the Guangzhou & Shenzhen region: JZL and NiceTour. For their part, Moroccan operators engaged in productive discussions with their Chinese counterparts, aiming to develop fruitful commercial cooperation.

ONMT hopes to welcome some 500,000 Chinese tourists a year, who on average spend twice as much during their stay as American tourists. Initiatives such as targeted promotional campaigns and «eductours» are planned to stimulate Chinese tourists' interest in Morocco.

With a population of 1.4 billion and 150 million annual travelers, China is the world's leading tourist-sending market. In the ONMT's «Light in Action» strategy, the Chinese market has been identified as a key area for boosting Morocco's tourism sector.
