In the early hours of Monday morning, the Casablanca Judicial Police Department, in close coordination with the General Directorate of National Surveillance, managed to thwart a major international drug trafficking operation from the beach area of Sidi Rahal, seizing a total of 18.243 tons (or 18 tonnes and 243 kilograms) of cannabis resin.

The joint security operation resulted in the arrest of five people caught in the act of transporting the seized drugs on board a large truck for international goods transportation, and attempting to load them onto three Zodiac inflatable boats. Their aim was to smuggle the drugs through sea routes from Sidi Rahal beach on the outskirts of Casablanca.

The source added that the search and combing procedures enabled the seizure of a large number of fuel containers, powerful marine engines, three Zodiac inflatable boats, air pumps, a satellite phone, in addition to a large truck used to transport drugs through land routes.

The five people arrested in this case were taken into custody pending the judicial investigation ordered by the competent public prosecution. This investigation aims to uncover all the extensions and connections of this international criminal network, as well as to arrest all those involved in its activities.

According to the same source, this operation is part of the joint efforts made by the National Security and National Surveillance Services to dismantle international crime networks, specifically those involved in international drug trafficking.
