Morocco's Central Bureau for Judicial Investigations (BCIJ) arrested four people belonging to the «Daech» terrorist organization on Thursday for their alleged involvement in preparing terrorist attacks aimed at seriously undermining public order.
Special Forces under the DGST conducted simultaneous operations to arrest the suspects, aged between 21 and 41, in the cities of Salé, Tangier, and Tetouan, according to a BCIJ press release.
Searches of the suspects' homes led to the seizure of electronic equipment, bladed weapons of various sizes, a «Daech» cloth banner, extremist manuscripts including a «pledging allegiance» text to the organization, and publications on «martyrdom operations» and building explosives.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects, adhering to «Daech» ideology and pledging allegiance to their leader, were planning attacks on vital targets within the Kingdom. The press release continued, stating that the suspects had conducted surveillance and identified targets in preparation for these attacks.
The investigation also showed that the suspects had acquired expertise in making explosives and established communication with «Daech» leaders abroad, who would potentially support and claim responsibility for the attacks.
The BCIJ, under the supervision of the public prosecutor's office specializing in terrorism and extremism, has taken the suspects into custody. The investigation aims to uncover all their terrorist plans and projects, and identify any connections with other terrorist organizations abroad.
