The King's Public Prosecutor at the Kenitra Court of Appeal has announced that the investigating judge has ordered seven people to be remanded in custody and another to be placed under judicial supervision, after several deaths in the province linked to consuming bootleg alcohol.

In a press release, the King's Public Prosecutor emphasized that, following online reports concerning deaths caused by a contaminated substance, the Public Prosecutor's Office had ordered the Royal Gendarmerie to open an investigation into the circumstances. This investigation led to the arrest of eight people, who were referred to the Public Prosecutor's Office.

According to the press release, the investigation revealed that the victims consumed a toxic alcoholic substance – methanol – which caused death in some cases. Others received medical treatment and were discharged, while some remain hospitalized.

The investigation further revealed that some suspects obtained the substance from sellers of concentrated alcohol, who then delivered it to traffickers. These traffickers, in turn, sold it to partygoers who, after consuming it, experienced severe illness leading to death in some cases.

Based on this information, the Public Prosecutor's Office requested an investigation into individuals suspected of deliberately supplying harmful substances, leading to deaths and injuries.

Following preliminary questioning, the examining magistrate ordered seven suspects to be remanded in custody and one to be placed under judicial supervision, all pending further investigation.

The press release concludes by stating that the Public Prosecutor's Office will monitor the case and ensure strict enforcement of the law.
