The first edition of the «Green Hydrogen Morocco Camp» was launched on Monday, July 1, at the Green Energy Park in Benguerir. This week-long initiative (running until July 6) aims to promote green hydrogen development in Morocco.

The camp is a organized by the Institut de Recherche en Énergie Solaire et Énergies Nouvelles (IRESEN), the German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ) in Morocco, and the MED-GEM network funded by the European Union. Participants include Master's students, PhD candidates, and young researchers.

The program features a «Summer School», providing participants with in-depth knowledge of green hydrogen through lectures, workshops, and practical demonstrations led by both national and internationally renowned experts.

On July 6, participants will put their knowledge to the test during the first stage of the hackathon, themed «Green Hydrogen Morocco Camp: From Theory to Action». The goal is to propose innovative solutions tailored to the Moroccan market. The top three teams will receive mentoring throughout the summer, culminating in the presentation of their final prototypes at a closing event scheduled for October.

Frank Wouters, Director of the MED-GEM Network, emphasized Morocco's potential for producing very low-cost green electricity and green hydrogen. He highlighted that the Kingdom possesses not only the necessary natural resources but also the skilled workforce and human capital to thrive in this field.

Echoing this sentiment, Jean Christophe Filori, Head of Cooperation at the EU Delegation, emphasized Morocco's promising future in green hydrogen, a technology that will be a «central element» in decarbonizing the energy ecosystem. Green hydrogen offers immense opportunities for economic growth and strengthens Europe's commercial, energy, and industrial relations with its southern Mediterranean neighbors, particularly Morocco.
