Morocco's Health Sector Unions Announce Five-Day Strike

The Coordination of Health Sector Unions has called a five-day national strike, starting today, Monday, July 22nd, and lasting until next Friday. The strike will affect hospitals, administrative offices, and training centers, with emergency and resuscitation services remaining operational.

This action follows what the unions see as a delayed response from the government regarding the implementation of a sectoral agreement. The union body met with Health Minister Khaled Ait Taleb on July 19th to discuss the government's proposals. While the unions expressed willingness to move forward, they claim a «lack of progress» and sent a letter to the Prime Minister urging swifter action.

Frustrated by the perceived «unresponsive silence» from the government, the unions have opted for a strike. They hold the Prime Minister «responsible for any negative consequences on health services for citizens».

Earlier this month, the day after a march was prevented in Rabat, the coordination announced a continuous strike over two weeks. The planned strike days are from Monday to Friday (July 15, 16, 17, 18, and 19, 2024), as well as the current week (July 22, 23, 24, 25, and 26).
