The Secretary General of the Justice and Development Party (PJD), Abdelilah Benkirane, recently condemned a visit by a group of young Moroccans to Israel. During his opening speech at the party's general secretariat meeting on Saturday, July 20, 2024, in Rabat, he emphasized that the initiative by those involved «is not permitted by law, even from a political standpoint, regardless of the calculations; it does not align with the national interest». He added, «What is happening is also not pleasing to Moroccans and from a political standpoint, it has no interest».

Last week, a petition gathered more than 1,500 signatures against the visit of students from Al Akhawayn University (AUI) to Israel. These students participated in an event described as «activism» in Tel Aviv, where they took a stance contrary to «all the values taught here at AUI», according to the petition.

The signatories stated that those involved «must be held accountable for tarnishing the reputation, not only of AUI members, but also of all Moroccans».
